Figure 22. Isobel “Jack” May, often referred to as the “bachelor girl settler,” was briefly a farmer at Sedgewick, Alberta in 1911–12. Her occupation and her “male attire” attracted press attention from around the globe. This photograph was used widely in the press to illustrate her farm work in Alberta, but it pre-dates her arrival in Canada.
